The Indian Premier League (IPL) is becoming house of controversy season
after season. The Kieron Pollard-Mitchell Starc conflict during the
IPL 2014 match came as a impolite surprise to many cricket fans as things became
insane on the field. It was the first time when players could come to setbacks
with each another. Even in past, we have seen controversies on the field of
play as well.
This can be said as one of the worst conflict in the history of IPL
where temperatures never soared to such a point where there could have been offending
physical harm to some player. As Mumbai Indians were struggling to
build a good score, Starc came back to bowl to the hazardous Pollard in the hike
overs. He first bowled a short one that was difficult for Pollard to play. Then
they had a small argument following a shocking scene. As Starc was running to
bowl, Pollard took few steps down the pitch and at the very last minute, he
backed away and was heading towards square-leg. However, Starc continued to
bowl a full-paced delivery towards Pollard. As it went towards Pollard, the West
Indian lost his anger and raised his bat and threw it in Starc’s direction.
While the whole episode cast a shadow on the game, one may say that we were fortunate
that the bat landed in front of Pollard. It could have well flown near Starc
and possibly hurt him.
